Pig Although each pipeline has its own set of characteristics which affect how and why pigging is used, there are basically three reasons to pig a pipeline:
  • Cleaning Pigs : For Cleaning pig and remove dust trought pipeline
  • Sealing pigs :For displacement purposes; To batch or separate dissimilar products
The pigs which are used to accomplish these tasks can be divided into three categories
Gel pig:
Gel pigs are a series of gelled liquid systems which have been developed for use in pipeline operations, either during initial commissioning, or as a part of a continuing maintenance program. Most pipeline gels are water-based, but a range of chemicals, solvents, and even acids can be gelled. Some chemicals can be gelled as the bulk liquid and others only diluted in a carrier. Gelled diesel is commonly used as a carrier of corrosion inhibitor in gas lines. There are four main types of gel that are used in pipeline applications:
  • Batching, or separator gel
  • Debris pickup gel
  • Hydrocarbon gel
  • Dehydrating gel
As a liquid, although highly viscous, the gel can be pumped through any line which will accept liquids. Gel pigs can be used alone (in liquid lines), in place of batching pigs, or in conjunction with various types of conventional pigs. When used with conventional pigs, gelled pigs can improve overall performance while almost eliminating the risk of sticking a pig.
Gel pigs do not wear out in service like conventional pigs. They can, however, be susceptible to dilution and gas cutting. Care must be taken, therefore, when designing a pig train that incorporates gel pigs to minimize fluid bypass of the pigs, and to place a conventional pig at the back of the train when displacing with gas.
The principle pipeline applications for gel pigs are as follows:
  • Product separation
  • Debris removal
  • Line filling/hydrotesting
  • Dewatering and drying
  • Condensate removal from gas lines
  • Inhibitor and biocide laydown
  • Special chemical treatment
  • Removal of stuck pigs
Specially formulated gels have also been used to seal valves during hydrostatic testing. Gels have been developed with a controlled gellation time and a controlled viscosity for temporary pipeline isolation purposes.

  4. Spheres can be solid or inflatable with air, water , or glycol and are used for product separation, liquid removal, and in meter proving.

  6. Open cell polyurethane foam is available in light , medium , and heavy density, dependant on the application. Foam pigs can be polyurethane coated to improve wear resistance and stability .

Technical Specifications

The Team Mandrel Pig consists of a solid steel body with polyurethane or rubber cup and disc wear parts as well as optional accessories for specific applications. This design allows for the easy onsite removal and replacement of the cups, discs and other ware parts with little down time.
The Team Mandrel Pigs’ cups and disc are available in Polyurethane, Neoprene and Nitrile in various durometers for superior scraping and sealing. They attach to the Team Mandrel Pig either through a center-hole for smaller sizes (standard 3” thru 14”) or bolt-hole circles for larger sizes (standard 16” and up). The number of cups and discs as well as their arrangement can be customized to accommodate certain application and desired results. This gives the Team Mandrel Pig the ability to overcome some of the most difficult pipeline obstacles such as short pipeline bends, tees and multi-diameter pipelines.
The ability to add Brushes, Magnets, Gauging Plates and other options to the nearly limitless configurations of the Team Mandrel Pig make it an excellent choice for pipeline cleaning, batching, gauging, displacement, bi-directional, dual-diameter, hydrostatic testing and removal of paraffin and scale build-up.
Team solid and inflatable polyurethane spheres are manufactured in a range of durometers for pipeline and meter prover applications. Neoprene, Nitrile and Viton spheres are also available for special applications. To achieve the maximum performance Team inflatable spheres must be properly filled and sized. Specific applications will determine the most effective sizing and filler fluid to be used.

Typical Sphere Applications
  • Liquid Batch Separation

  • Team spheres are used for separating various products such as gasolines, fuel oils, crude oils, jet fuels, and other petroleum products transported through a pipeline. Product integrity is maintained while navigating tees and ells.
  • Line Testing

  • Team spheres purge air from the pipeline to insure accurate hydrostatic testing. This is achieved by inserting a sphere ahead of the water column which displaces the air. Team spheres can remain in the line throughout all phases of testing. Once the test is complete, the spheres are used to dewater the pipeline.
  • Line Maintenance

  • Team spheres maintain pipeline integrity by removing paraffin and condensate. During pipeline corrosion control maintenance, spheres are used to batch corrosion inhibitors.
  • Meter Prover Spheres

  • Team spheres gauge volume displacement to confirm the accuracy of flow meters.
  • Sphere Pump

  • A sphere pump is recommended to properly inflate a Team sphere. The pump is easy to operate by placing the appropriate fluid in the filling cup, attaching the hose to the valve body in the sphere, and manually pressing the handle. The pump and attachments are available from Team Industries.
TEAM foam pigs are open cell polyurethane foam moulded in different shapes, sizes and densities.
The products can be supplied bare, elastomer coated, silicon carbide coated or wirebrush bonded unto the products with the aid of polyurethane elastomer. Range of densities includes- medium density 3 3 (5-8lb/ft) and hard density (9-10lb/ft).
